Meet the team
Your Kid’s Next Read was founded, created and nurtured by author Allison Tait, author, editor and teacher-librarian Megan Daley, and author Allison Rushby. Here’s a quick overview of who we are and what we do.
Founded in 2017 as a Facebook community by Allison Tait and Megan Daley, the popularity of the group grew so quickly that
Allison Rushby was soon invited to join the team. (See details about each team member below.)
Since then, Your Kid’s Next Read has grown organically and exponentially. A podcast was added in 2021, to expand on and foster the conversations taking place in the group, and advocate for Australian children’s authors.
With the recent addition of a Substack newsletter, Your Kid’s Next Read has further cemented its place as an integral part of the Australian children’s publishing industry.
Allison Tait

Allison Tait (A.L. Tait) is the internationally published bestselling author of 11 middle-grade novels, including adventure series The Mapmaker Chronicles Ateban Cipher novels, and the Maven & Reeve Mysteries. THE FIRST SUMMER OF CALLIE McGEE, was longlisted for the 2024 Margaret and Colin Roderick Literary Award.
WILLOW BRIGHT’S SECRET PLOT and DANGER ROAD are both out in 2025.
A multi-genre writer, creative writing teacher and speaker with many years’ experience in magazines, newspapers and online publishing, Allison is co-host of the top rated Your Kid’s Next Read podcast and former co-host of the So You Want To Be A Writer podcast.
Allison is a YKNR community manager and talks a lot.
Megan Daley
Teacher Librarian | Author | Children’s Literacy Educator, Speaker and Advocate
Megan Daley is a Teacher Librarian and has been awarded the Australian Teacher Librarian of the Year and the Queensland Teacher Librarian of the Year, as well as the national Dromkeen Librarian’s Award.
Megan is the author of the bestselling book ‘Raising Readers’ (UQP, 2019) and editor of the ‘Teacher, Teacher’ anthology (Affirm Press, 2023). Her debut picture book ‘The Beehive’ was published by Walker Books in 2024.

Allison Rushby

Allison Rushby is a children’s, YA and adult fiction author with more than 30 books to her name.
Her middle-grade books The Turnkey, The Seven Keys, The Mulberry Tree and When This Bell Rings (Walker/Candlewick) are spooky tales aimed at intermediate readers.
Her latest series are the Miss Penny Dreadful mysteries and The Wish Sisters series for junior readers.
Allison is a YKNR community manager and our Giveaway Queen.
