Since 2017, Team Your Kid’s Next Read has shown up week in, week out, to help the members of our community answer one question:
“What should my child read next?”
It’s the question that lies at the heart of every podcast episode we create, every newsletter article we write and every discussion we have at conferences, writers’ festivals, online and in playgrounds.
It’s a question that looks simple but is, at heart, deeply complex.
Because we know it’s not easy to raise a reader.
Which is why we’ve partnered with Affirm Press/Simon & Schuster to bring you the Your Next Read series, a curated, wide-reading experience within a series environment– quality, illustrated Australian stories for Australian kids. The series is designed to make it easier to find the next book, and the next, and the next for your young reader!
Becoming a lifelong reader is a choice. It means always choosing to pick up the next book.

The aims of the Your Next Read series
Your Next Read is specifically designed to fill the need for chapter books that strike a balance between child satisfaction and parental approval and to supplement the science-based approach to reading education. We’re aiming to develop the ‘love of literature’ that goes alongside ‘literacy’.
The series removes reading roadblocks and grows with kids as their reading confidence and reading interests develop. The engaging stories, carefully structured text and illustrations make reading accessible and enjoyable for all kids, whether they are newly independent readers or ready to take the next step.
Designed for reading success
Accessible fonts, carefully spaced text, off-white paper stock, shorter sentences and chapters, and supportive illustrations all work together to reduce overwhelm, build comprehension and create a reader-friendly experience.
The Your Next Read Silver Series for beginner readers (5-8) are 112 pages long, divided into six to eight short chapters with an illustration on every spread supporting short sentences and paragraphs.
The Your Next Read Gold Series for emerging independent readers are 144 pages long, divided into eight to ten chapters with three illustrations in each chapter, and featuring more complex narratives.
The easy-to-recognise icons covering themes like friendship, sport, mystery and humour, coupled with much-loved writers and illustrators, means kids can quickly identify the books that interest them most and follow those cues to discover a large library of books in the series to read and collect next.
